What's the Purpose of the Laser Gates in The Phantom Menace? | Star Wars Explained

Report from the Holocron of Xela. Description: What is the point of all the laser gates on Naboo in the duel of the fates between Obi-Wan Kenobi, Qui-Gon Jinn, and Darth Maul? That facility attached to Theed’s royal hangar bay was a plasma refinery that powered the planet’s entire capital city. Laser gates were often used as security systems, but the gates on Theed were meant to hold back dangerous amounts of power outputs from the core of the city’s primary power generator. The six gates represented a Naboo legend that stated that there were six gates that held back Chaos, or the void. Basically they represented the gates to the Star Wars version of hell.
