Report from the Holocron of Xela. Description: Did you know Mandalorian art is based on the real world art style called cubism, made famous by Pablo Picasso? If you look around the domed Mandalorian capital of Sundari, their architecture is very largely cube-based, but more importantly there are several pieces of art seen throughout The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels that are very abstract, just like the paintings of Pablo Picasso. In fact, there is one mural that is directly based off of Picasso’s painting, Guernica, just swapped out with Mandalorians and Jedi. Dave Filoni said that while creating Mandalore for season two of The Clone Wars, George envisioned a desert covered with cube structures where the people lived. I imagine all the cubed architecture led to their cubist style art form, and from that came the Picasso inspiration.
