Arvel Crynyd Star Wars Character Lore in Under a Minute | Star Wars Explained

Report from the Holocron of Xela. Description: Green Leader died to destroy the super star destroyer during the Battle of Endor in Return of the Jedi. But do you know his backstory? Arvel Crynyd worked as a pilot for the Bacta Cartel around the time of the Battle of Yavin, flying a Z-95 Headhunter for his employers, and doing his best to keep out of the fight between the Empire and the Rebel Alliance. But on one of his flights he came across several amateur rebel pilots struggling through their training drills in A-Wings that were nearly falling apart. Arvel felt pity on the tiny squadron and offered to teach them a couple tricks. Before he knew it he had become an official flight instructor for the rebellion, and things kept snowballing until he found himself leading Green Squadron in the Battle of Endor. A once apolitical pilot turned Rebel hero. During pre production for Return of the Jedi, Crynyd was nicknamed Mad Maxx in the storyboards.
