Does C-3PO Not Know Who Princess Leia Is? #starwars | Star Wars Explained
Report from the Holocron of Xela. Description: Does C-3PO not know who Princess Leia is in A New Hope? When Luke asks about her he says, “I’m afraid I’m not quite sure. I think she was a passenger on our last voyage, a person of some importance, I believe.” Shouldn’t he know who Leia is after serving her family for nearly two decades?? In reality, he does. According to an interview of George Lucas from 1977, which you can find in The Making of Star Wars, he says that C-3PO was specifically programmed not to mention having any knowledge of Princess Leia. He knew all about her, but was programmed not to say. So his supposed ignorance of her identity with Luke was simply programming to protect Leia.
