No, That's Not Palpatine in The Acolyte | Star Wars Explained

Report from the Holocron of Xela. Description: The Acolyte trailer has *already* got some fans speculating like crazy. Who is holding that red lightsaber at the end? Is it a Sith Lord? Is it Palpatine? Darth Plagueis? Bane? Revan?? Let’s start with a young Palpatine, also known as Darth Sidious. Could he appear in The Acolyte? The Acolyte takes place one hundred years before the events of The Phantom Menace. The canon reference book Star Wars Timelines places Palpatine’s birth on Naboo at eighty four years before the events of A New Hope, meaning he was born *fifty two* years before Episode One. Palpatine isn’t even born yet at the time of The Acolyte. So no. Young Sheev will not be making an appearance in this series. And nor should he! One of the main reasons I’m so excited for The Acolyte is because it’s the first live action Star Wars story set outside of The Skywalker Saga. I want to see Star Wars expand and grow, and that’s simply not going to happen if we just keep bringing back the *same* villain over and over and over again. I do think we’ll probably see Yoda in this, because he’s so dang old, but I hope his appearances are minor and limited. Maybe it’ll just be a single scene in the Jedi Council chamber where he sends Sol and Jecki and Yord off to investigate the Jedi murders. I want to get invested in new characters and locations, not spend even more time with the same heroes and villains we’ve known for almost fifty years! #starwars #theacolyte
