In the comic Crimson Reign, the assassin, Imara Vex, was sent on a covert mission to attack the criminal syndicate Black Sun. She was hired by Qi’ra along with several other mercenaries, and ordered to leave no witnesses. As one ship attempted to flee, she loaded a special, coaxium-filled shell into her blaster. It was exactly as destructive as you would assume it to be. I imagine it would require some sort of special firing mechanism within the blaster.
